Did Jesus Die for One Type of People?

Acts 10:34-35 NIV

“Then Peter began to speak: ‘I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.’”

As we go into this Easter season, we as Christians remember the sacrifice Jesus made for all of us. However, we play so many other roles than simply just Christians. We are moms, dads, grandparents, white, black, tan, Hispanic, Asian, American, male, female, young, old, Catholic, Baptist, etc... Some of us are even defined by the job titles we fill, such as: Lawyer, Doctor, Police Officer, and even Stay-at-Home-Mom. With these labels, consequently, comes discrimination, condemnation and judgement on our behalf as humans. We grow to know Jesus and the sacrifice he made, but there’s a common misconception that Christ died for a select few people. In reality, he did, but it wasn’t based on our outward appearance, age, job title or denomination. He died for sinners, and sinners we all are.

If we reflect on Romans 10:5-13, Paul writes that “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (v.13). Though we have so many characteristics that define us, it is important to remember that it is with our hearts that we believe and are justified. God sees the hearts of all and knows the thoughts of his people, while we as humans are blinded to what is on the inside of anyone other than ourselves. We may see another story, but it is the Lord who keeps the score. Paul tells us that, if we declare with our mouths that “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in our hearts that he was raised from the dead by our Father in Heavan for the forgiveness of our sins, then we will be saved (V.9). Regardless of the labels, we are sinners at best. Though we may fall into other categories set by the world, we are still children of God, unworthy of the act of love made on our behalf by Jesus Christ. Let us accept his gift of salvation and offer our thanks through living in likeness with him.
