Church Was Never Meant to be Boring
Psalm 122:1
“I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’"
Throughout my life, I’ve heard the groans of many when considering the thought of going to church. I myself, have even groaned about going to church many times. Especially when I made the decision to just stop going all together over the course of my addiction. There seems to be a common misconception believed by many that we go to church specifically to learn and feel shame for our sins. Usually, the idea of sitting, listening, learning and feeling bad doesn’t always sound enticing to most (and of course it wouldn't because were human)! However, while this misconception is semi-true (we do go to church to learn and repent), it will never be fully true. Here’s why: the lesson (or sermon) is only a fraction of the service.
When we attend church, we are encouraged to sing songs of praise, worship and enjoy fellowship with other believers in Christ. We aren’t supposed to just sit there and listen (or half listen)! As God's children, we were designed for fellowship with other believes while we praise and worship the God who, not only built us, but brought us together in the first place. Our souls need these important practices withing the church if we are ever going to prosper spiritually. King David shows us his passion for fellowship when he said that he “rejoiced" with others when they said, “Let us go to the house of the Lord!” If we reflect on David's life, he was tremendous at showing us how to praise and worship God the right way. He loved to sing and dance for the Lord! I encourage you today to get excited about joining in fellowship with other believes, as we come together to share our love for the Lord! Stand up and shout out a praise to the Lord by telling the congregation why you're thankful that day. Sing together with your brothers and sisters in Christ as the hymns fill the sanctuary. Remind others why we're really there through your actions of praise, fellowship and rejoicing.
Are you getting the most out of your church as you were intended to? Or are you simply present?
**I encourage you to listen to "House of the Lord," by Phil Wickham which played in my head the entire time I wrote this! **
