Playing Hide-and-Go-Seek with Jesus

Luke 15:7 NIV

"I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in Heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent."

If I haven't already made this obvious, we love lost sheep here at RBTSC. Let me explain why. Have you ever played hide-and-go-seek with someone who just stands there in the open where they can be easily seen? Not fun! There's no excitement in finding someone who's not hidden from your sight, or we could say lost. The real excitement comes when you've looked high and low for that person, only to finally find them! In the same way, Jesus explains this idea to us in the Parable of the Lost Sheep found in Luke 15. He explains that when a sheep wanders off, a shepherd will leave his ninety-nine other sheep to search for that one lost sheep. When he finds it, he throws it over his shoulder and brings it back home. Then he calls all of his friends so that they may rejoice together because his lost sheep has come home.

Jesus is our Good Shepherd, and we are his sheep. Throughout our lives, we may find ourselves on the wrong path, seeming to have lost our way. However, we're never too lost to be found because our Shepherd will come seeking us. And when he finds us and brings us back home where we belong, he and the angels in Heaven rejoice because that's a win for the kingdom. Kind of like when you find your opponent in a rousing game of hide-and-go-seek and joyously proclaim your victory. It's one thing to live spot-free your entire life, but Jesus didn't die for the ones who claim perfection. If you claim to have lived a "perfect" life, then what do you need to be saved from? He died for the sinners. He died for the sheep who've lost their way. He died for the people who know and love him but have wandered down the wrong path amidst this dark world that we live in and are ready to be sought out in this game of hide-and-go-seek.

Look at where you may be standing right now. Does the path you're walking down look unfamiliar to you? Our Shepherd is ready to come to find you. Are you ready to be found? There's a party lined up in Heaven and they want to celebrate you!
