Out with the Old and In with the New
Hebrews 13:38-39 NIV
"Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus, the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him, everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses."
Isn't this such a refreshing read? For some time, I attended a denomination of churches that honestly scared me away from God. For some reason, I always felt like the message they were preaching was judgment. After I reevaluated what I was raised to believe and compared it with that what I was being taught, I came to realize that their values seemed to still be deeply rooted in the Old Covenant. With no disrespect to the church, I left it and went back to the church I was raised in. Just a few months after that, I founded Redeemed By The Spirit Church and am now sharing what I know and believe with you, my beloved members, and visitors.
In the Old Covenant, which was born through Moses, we see judgment, we see the punishment, we see condemnation, we see death at the grave, and we see division in our relationship with God because of our sins. However, in the New Covenant, which was given life through Jesus Christ, we see forgiveness, we see mercy, we see salvation, we see hope and it tells us that if we believe, we will be set free from the slavery of our sins. Matthew 12:31 tells us that the only sin that cannot be forgiven is any blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. However, because we see abide in this New Covenant with God, we can repent, turn from our sinful ways, and be forgiven. We no longer have to face death at the grave as punishment for our sins because that debt was paid at the cross. When Jesus ascended into Heaven, He defeated death once and for all. Thus, allowing us to live in close fellowship with our beloved God.
