No Loss, Just Gain
1 Peter 3:13 NIV
"Who is going to harm you if you are eager to good?"
After hearing about the persecution that the people of the Roman churches were facing, Peter writes to them a letter of encouragement. This letter is now known as the book of 1 Peter. In his letter, he encourages the people that, despite the persecution they are being faced with, they must remain faithful to Jesus. However, this suffering is not for no reason. In 1 Peter 3, he makes this statement. I'm sure when you read it, you might think, "Well a lot could harm me really. People could mug me or kill me," and you're not wrong! These things can quite possibly happen to a person who is eager to do the work of God. We've seen it happen many times over the years. But like I've preached before, this suffering is of the earth. We are promised something far greater than anything this world could ever offer us. Because we are children of God, washed in the blood of the lamb, we are heirs to the kingdom of Heaven and all of its riches. These riches are things that we could never fathom or even see in this lifetime. This is why we must remain eager to do the good works of God here on earth. When we remain persistent in our duties as Christians, constantly choosing to take the higher road, no one can take the promises of God away from us. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
