True Freedom

Romans 6:14 NIV

"For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace."

With today being a monumental celebration of our freedom here in the United States, I felt it fitting to make today's thought about freedom. However, this freedom is not limited to simply the citizens of the United States, but to past, present, and future generations of believers all around the globe. The scripture translates to something like this: Sin is no longer our master because we are no longer held in bondage to the law of the Old Covenant but are freed by the grace of God which is given to us through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In the Old Covenant, which was the defining element of the Old Testament, people saw punishment as their sins deserved. Because the people were held accountable for their sins on this earth and faced God's wrath according to their sins, their relationship with God was not like what we see today. So, why are things different now?

John 3:16 paints a perfect picture of God's love for us, showing us that out of His love, He sent His one and only Son to die on the cross for believers so that they may see God's compassion, grace, mercy, and ultimately eternal life. How awesome, right? While we see the freedom of being able to repent of our sins and move forward in a loving relationship with God through the ultimate sacrifice, Jesus Christ, God's people then had to bring sacrifices and offerings to the altar to make atonement for their sins. Because of the sacrifice made on our behalf, we are no longer held as slaves to our sins but are of royal blood through Jesus Christ.

Have you stepped into your righteous, royal position, or are you still dragging the burden of your sins? Repent and believe that Jesus has set us free!
