Get Knocked Down, Pray, Get Back Up

Matthew 26:46 NIV

"Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!"

Betrayal. We've all felt it at one point or another. And no matter how hard we try to run from it, no matter how many times we try to protect ourselves from it; it sometimes seems to be inevitable. Jesus knew how this felt, and not only do we see how deeply it troubled Him in this scripture, but we see how exactly our Messiah handled hurt and betrayal. In Matthew 26:36-46, we see Jesus praying in his suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane. He is hurting to the point that He falls to His face and prays to God that He might take His suffering away. You see, He knew the cross was coming, and He knew that Judas was on his way to betray Him. While there are many directions I'd like to take this message, I'm going to keep it at this: Jesus didn't dwell in His suffering. Oh no, He got upset, He embraced that hurt and He cried out to our Father in prayer. This, my friends, is what God wants us to do when we are hurting. When we're in need. He wants us to acknowledge our pain-because we are only human and then bring that pain to Him in prayer. Why? Because HE can do something about it-not people. No, people tend to betray us, but our God understands us. And then after we've evaluated our pain and prayed earnestly to God, then, we can get back up and move forward confidently in our suffering because God has it all in the palm of His hands. Jesus got upset, He gave it all to God praying that not His will, but God's will be done, and he moved on. Even knowing that He was about to innocently dive headfirst into a brutal death, He trusted God's plan and He obediently followed His lead. And because He did, we get to live in a close relationship with our Heavenly Father, forgiven of our transgressions.
