Who are You Glorifying?
1 Corinthians 6:20 NIV
"...you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."
The scripture tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, which makes us Holy through the atonement of our sins which Christ made on our behalf. Because of our faith, we have been washed in the cleansing blood and purchased by Jesus. The cost? His life. And because He has sought us out and redeemed our lives from the bondage of sin, we owe our lives to Him; This includes our bodies. Now, I'm sure we all know that by honoring Christ with our bodies we choose to do things like not marking on it (aka tattoos), dressing stylishly but modestly, maintaining a healthy lifestyle by choosing nutritious foods and exercising, drinking plenty of water, nourishing our minds by reading the scriptures, getting a proper amount of rest and avoiding the excess consumptions of alcohol and drugs. But our honoring of God shouldn't simply end with our bodies, but with our actions and words too.
Today's world really emphasizes self-gratification, and it's made even worse by social media. Now, don't get me wrong, when used properly, I truly believe that social media can be a wonderful thing. However, it becomes an issue in our faith when we allow all of the likes, shares, and followers to get to our heads. This is when it can be quite easy to forget who gave us the gifts that people find valuable, the looks that people compliment us on, or even the lifestyle in general that we have been blessed with. It's crucial that when the world is amplifying you, we as Christians need to step back and amplify Him. We have what we have because of God. That beautifully decorated home that your friends "oooh" and "ahhhh" over was not self-earned but given to you by God. Your beauty that everyone is raving over in that selfie you posted wasn't the result of the high-end products you used but from God. So, when your friends, your family, and even your follower base are glorifying you, my question is: Who are you glorifying?
