God is in Control

Job 37:6-7 (NLT)

"He directs the snow to fall on the earth and tells the rain to pour down. Then everyone stops working so they can watch his power."

As I sit here looking for the words to say, the snow is heaving itself to the frozen ground by the buckets. What was just lifeless grass about an hour ago, is now covered by at least four inches of bright, white snow. Though snow is dreaded by most where I'm from, I can't help but admire the beauty of it as I watch the small white flecks fall to the earth. The beauty alone can stop me dead in my tracks as I walk by my window. Likewise, the sound of a spring rain on the rooftop-that God sends to mark the awakening of the world from a dead winter-soothes my soul to no end. Nevertheless, both the falling of the snow and the rain seem to slow me down and put my mind at ease, if even for just a moment.

In life, we will find that there isn't much we have control over. Even our bad hair days seem to be something that slips through our grasp. However, if we look at the big picture, we serve the God that tells each wild snowflake to freefall to the earth. He tells the rains when to pour and when to sprinkle. He is in control of everything in the Heavens and on earth. Because he is in control, we don't have to be (nor do we need to be). So, whether we see the flurries of a mid-winter snow, or the rain pouring down on an early spring day, we can rest and enjoy God's wonderful work knowing that he is in full control.

When was the last time you caught a snowflake on your tongue or danced in the falling rain?
