Why Trusting God Can be Hard
Numbers 23:19 NIV
"God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?"
There's not much for certain in life, but there are a few things that are. We will be mistreated by a person, or people, at some point in life. We will be lied to or about. People will change their mind. People will make promises and go back on them. In turn, this makes it hard to put our full trust in people out of fear of getting hurt. While we fear putting trust in people, the Bible tells us that we can safely put our trust in God.
God is not like people. His ways are different than ours. He holds our best interest in the palm of his hand, and he knows the plans he has for us (Jeremiah 29:11). He will not turn his back and leave us when we need him the most. He will not lie to us or tell lies about us to others. He won't tell us something and then change his mind or allow others to influence his feelings towards us. He will not make a promise to us and not keep it. Our hesitancy at trusting God fully, is out of affliction we have faced on earth from other humans, but God is not human. Though we may find it difficult to fully put our trust in God, we can always find peace in the promise that God won't do to us like people do.
