God's Valentine's Day Gift to the World
John 3:16 NIV
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
To this day, Valentine's Day has always been my favorite holiday. Even in my younger years, I would buy myself a bag of chocolates or a tray of chocolate covered strawberries if I had no one to gift them to me. My family and I start celebrating over a week before making cute pink and red crafts, and sweet treats in the shape of hearts. Now, don't get me wrong, Christmas and Easter are big in our family because of our love for Jesus Christ, but there's just something about the love in the air that makes me feel the love for one another we were meant to have.
Though the strawberries, fancy dinners and chocolate indulgences are a treat, God is the one who has given us the sweetest Valentine's Day gift of all. Not a bouquet of flowers or box of fine chocolates can compare to the gift of Jesus Christ. For when God sent his only son, he not only sent an example of how we should live our lives, but he sent his human sacrifice to put to end the slavery and death to sin. God loves us so much that he sent his beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to hang from the cross on Calvary for our sake. Though chocolates will spoil and rose petals will wither, God's gift for us is everlasting and eternal. It's a gift that will never compare to any other gift we could ever receive on this earth.
