Salvation: The Most Priceless Gift

Titus 3:5-7 NIV

"He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life."

This time of year, especially, I find it so refreshing to remind ourselves of God's loving, generous character. From time to time, I do find myself fearing our God a little more than I should. I think this is just part of the fear that I'm overcoming from having spent so much time running from him in the past. While we're supposed to fear him from a stance of obedience, he doesn't want us to be afraid of him. This is why it is so important that we remind ourselves of the nature of our God and the love he has for his people-Titus 3:5-7 does just that. We serve a kind, generous and loving God. He loves us so much and longed to reconcile us to the extent that he sent Jesus to wash us clean from our sins, so that we could live in close relationship with him. It is through Jesus washing us in his blood that we are saved. We are saved from death and eternal hell. We are saved from condemnation. We are saved from being punished as our sins deserve. Why? Because of God's love for us. We will never see a love like our Father's in this life time. We will never be offered a gift greater than salvation on this earth. His love and this gift of salvation aren't offered to us based on what we do and don't deserve. This isn't a reward for being the greatest or doing the right thing at the right time. These treasures have been offered to us on the grounds of God's love and mercy. This is why we mustn't be afraid of God, and that we must remind ourselves that, while love and salvation are not things we deserve, they're gifts of compassion and mercy through our Lord and Savior.

Does knowing that God loves us so much, and is so merciful towards us, that he offers us the gift of salvation encourage you feel closer to God? Have you accepted this gift in humility?
