Don't Let Your Troubles Break Your Focus

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 NIV

"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

If we're being real, I don't think there is a person that's ever walked this earth that hasn't suffered in some way, shape, or form. Even Jesus Christ, the most perfect human, suffered tremendously during his time here on earth. In our sufferings, though, we have a choice. A choice that can make or break us as Christians. It is in our sufferings that we much choose whether we're going to let our troubles dictate our lives by submitting ourselves to them as slaves or fix our eyes on the end goal; eternal life. In Paul's second letter to the Corinthians, he encourages the people to stand firm in their faith amidst the troubles that they are faced with on this earth. Paul, who personally suffered a great deal of hardship throughout his ministry, knew that what we are faced with on earth is temporary. Though things may look tough, our faith resides in the one who cannot be seen.

As Christians, we are promised eternal life through Christ who died for our sins. And the eternal kingdom that we hope to one day reside in is perfection. In this Heavenly abode, we are set free from our sufferings and made new. Here, we are promised restoration, regained health and strength, and rest from the afflictions that we have faced here on earth. You see, the sufferings we are faced with today are of the world. And like the ways of the world, they are here today and gone tomorrow. However, God and all of His promises will forever remain the same. That is why we must keep our eyes fixed on Christ. Because one day, one glorious day, He will return, and He will call on those who endured in His name, so that they may reap the great reward that He died to give to us; relief from our suffering and an eternity of peace.

Do you have your eyes fixed on your troubles or Jesus?
