Because He Remains the Same

Malachi 3:6 NIV

" I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed."

From the Garden of Eden to today's society, we have been a sinful people. I hear people regularly say, "This world is just getting worse," and in reality, it's not. If we turn to the scripture, we will see millenniums of murderers, liars, cheaters, thieves, the sexually immoral, I mean, you name it, we've seen it! It's not that the world is getting worse, it's that the devil is getting more creative in deceiving people into doing wrong. But here's the good news. While evil may not look exactly the same as it did a thousand, even two thousand years ago, our God remains the same. Hebrews 13:8 tells us that the Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and we see an emphasis on that scripture here when He adds that it is for our sake that He does not change. If our God changed, He could just so easily destroy us because of the sins we have committed. But because He is the same loving God who had compassion on Adam and Eve when Eve ate the apple, who had compassion on Jacob when He cheated his brother out of his birthright, and who had compassion on King David when He had an affair with a married woman, He also has compassion on us. Unlike the ever-changing ways of evil, God remains the same. And because of His love for us, He hung punishment, guilt, and shame on the cross right there with His one and only Son. His love, compassion, and mercy will forever remain and all we must do is repent, believe, and remain loyal to the God that remains the same.
