An Invitation to be Saved

Romans 10:9 NIV

"If you declare with your mouth 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

For ages, Christians have received a bad rap for being "goody two shoes." It's even been said that we think we're better than everyone else; why is this? I truly believe it is because we follow a set of standards, or guidelines if you will, for how we are to conduct ourselves as Christians. This doesn't sit well with the ways of the world because the ways of the world tell us to follow the latest trend and do whatever we may find pleasing at that moment. And while we do have a set of guidelines, morals, and values that we as Christians hold to, we are all sinners just like everyone else.

But here's the good news: We are all given the benefit of the doubt. Paul tells us all in his letter to the people of Rome that if we proclaim with our mouths that Jesus is our Lord and Savior and truly believe that God raised him from the dead for the forgiveness of our sins, then we will be forgiven. Now, let's be clear about one thing here. This scripture is not a get out of jail free card to go sin intentionally, but then proclaim the name of Jesus. We must remember that Jesus knows our hearts. As Christians, we are not called to be better than everyone else, but to be humble and make the decision to rise above sin when it is in our human power. This scripture here is what shows that we are not better than everyone else, but that Jesus' invitation for salvation goes out to everyone who wishes to accept. Jesus knows our hearts while other people cannot. At any given time, even the worst of the worst can come forward in an act of faith and be saved, and all they must do is declare and believe, repenting of their sins and choosing to not be better than anyone else but to be better than the world we're faced with today.

Have you accepted Jesus' invitation, yet? If so, are you living the humble life we're called to live through Christ?
