Money Doesn't Control Us
Matthew 6:24 NIV
"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
Before I became a stay-at-home mom and felt the calling of God to preach, I worked in the banking industry. I enjoyed my job with the bank and knew the ins and outs of how it worked. I dealt with customers regularly on the deposit side and even on the retail side of things. However, I noticed this: People will do some ugly things to protect their money or even make a buck. The problem is that our world revolves around a dollar. Especially in today's world with the cost of living on the rise. If we're not careful, we can live at a dollar's mercy. Thus, finding ourselves dedicating our time and devotion to our funds rather than our God.
Through Christ, we as Christians have been set free of the bondage of sin. But to be quite frank, we have been set free of the bondage of all things of the world (which is ruled by Satan); This includes the "control" that money has over us. I use the term "control" loosely because the control it has on us is the control we allow. And because we have been set free of the control the enemy has over us, we do not have to live in fear over not having enough or stressed that we won't make ends meet. Here's why: The scripture tells us in Philippians 4:19, "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." In Christ's sacrifice, we have been reconciled to God and because He loves us, He will provide for us. We need not worry but be still and trust that in the moment of need, God will grant us His glorious provisions according to His will for our lives. Always remember, money isn't as essential in our lives as Christ is. When we have Him, everything else we need will fall right into place.
