Come As You Are
Isaiah 55:1NIV
"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come buy wine and milk without money and without cost."
Have you ever felt like you couldn't turn to God because you don't have it all together? Maybe you think you have an ugly past and that you will be rejected. Maybe you think the people at church will judge you for the life you've lived. Maybe you feel like God won't acknowledge you or love you because people have rejected you. Or you may even feel like you can't come to church because you don't have a lot of money and can't afford a suit and tie. I'm here to tell you, come as you are.
God doesn't have a set criterion that we have to meet to be accepted with open arms. On the contrary, we are invited to come as we are, and he will sort out the rest. Isaiah 55:1 tells us that his invitation is extended to all who are thirsty. Take the Samaritan woman in John 4 for example. She was a woman of sinful nature, having had five husbands and living with a man she wasn't married to. Jesus offered her a drink of his living water just as she was. You don't need money to eat at the table of the Lord because the price has already been paid. Jesus died on the cross to cover the cost of the blessings God has in store for us. All we have to do is come as we are and allow God to do a work in us. People will reject you, but God sees your heart (1 Samuel 16:7).
