From Darkness to Light
1 John 1:5 NIV
"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all."
I've always been afraid of the dark. As far back as I can remember, I have always feared being outside at night, the power going out or even sleeping without a nightlight. Even as a grown adult, I still can't seem to explain why I feel the way that I feel about my fear. Nothing bad has ever happened to me in the dark. Though, what I can gather about my fear is that it has something to do with the debilitating blindness that comes from the night. The uncertainty of what lurks in the darkness. In the darkness, I can't see to walk freely and am limited to what I can and can't do. In the darkness I find myself unprepared for a possible ambush from an enemy.
Likewise, when we walk in spiritual darkness, we are walking without our source of light. We are limited to move freely and fully. With God, however, there is no darkness. It is he who saves us from the darkness. As we stand alone and vulnerable to attack, it is he who shines light into our lives so that we may be well prepared for anything that comes our way. The darkness of sin will never overpower the light of the Lord. When we live in the light of God, there is no darkness, there is no blindness, and we don't have to worry about being ambushed. God brought light to this earth (Genesis 1:1-3), and he will bring light to your darkness, too, if you turn your heart to him. When we follow the light, we will shed the darkness of sin and flourish fully in the blessings God has promised us.
